First time building a deck. I built a 6m x 6m in my backyard all by myself. I did a lot of planning and watched YouTube to ensure all goes to plan.
I used about 72 Tuffblocks and to cost cut a little, I used 12 posts without TuffBlocks and used just concrete paver instead. I painted Bitumen paint on every end cut of the posts. I also used joist tape protector ( not self adhesive) on every joists and noggins.
I used a cheap but practical laser level to level the four corners of the deck. Once the frame is level, I used joist hangers to hang all the joists then put the posts. The most time consuming part of the project was measuring and cutting the posts. Putting the composite deck boards was also a slow process, I used about 700+ hidden clips and screws.
It was hard work but fun and very satisfying to it finished.
It was worth it.

Had a step down to a concrete path next to an existing low( floor level) decked area. Had to dig up concrete path for plumbing and used Tuffblocks to pickup the joists for the new decking.

Great Product, we have an easement running through our property right where I wanted to build our 6m x 3m shed. The BuildTuff Blocks allowed us to build a low level deck without a concrete slab which means in the future if Tas Water needs to dig up the easment the whole shed and structure can be removed with little issues

Its all in the preparation! So when we levelled each area under the tuffblock it made the job much easier. One other thing we had to keep in mind was that the 100mm x 100mm posts we bought were actually 105 x105mm so had to trim them down with a bench saw. It was more cost effective still than buying 90x90mm posts

Got 2 dozen from their Easter sale for a low deck. Had to trim down our 100x100 oversized posts for them to fit. They worked quite well but sometimes a bit fiddley to get the joist to sit on the cut out. Lots of videos on you tube to watch and easier than digging a hole. Great idea. Would use them again.

I used over 130 Tuffblocks to build a 60m2 floating deck. They were easy to use and the deck frame is solid and stable. Much better than having to dig holes for concrete footings, and cost about the same as concrete and stirrups. I recommend Tuffblocks as a good DIY option for anyone considering building a deck.

What a fantastic idea! After building a small kitset studio in our garden, and using stumps for that. Then doing the small deck in ToughBlocks I can tell you that I'd choose ToughBlocks EVERY TIME from now on!
So much easier to get the levels right (sloped block), so much easier to work with, so simple a set up (roadbase), and simple to measure and stump (90x90 back to back for the stumps with bearer incut)
For someone like me who has a very very small amount of building knowledge, there worked amazingly, and the result is something I'm very proud of.
If you were a tradie, I'm sure these would save an absolute ton of time. (it seemed quick even for me)

TuffBlocks very easy & stable. Adjusted the top of half the TuffBlocks with a saw to work with Bunnings Goodtimes decking base squares - when screwed together you get 90mm joists. Finished with Millboard decking. Worked like a treat.

I have completed the job around in total 20 hours. The instructions for using the Tuff Blocks is very clear. Even I was not sure about what should be the joist type and deck board clearance and screws to be used with it, every point was clear as glass in the manual. Tuff block definetly allows quick base establishment compared to conventional concrete block or pouring cement. Price wise I think it became slightly cheaper than pouring cement where I used 28 Tuff Blocks. I have hands on skills but not as a pro tradie level. Only time probably I was tired during drilling and tightening the deck board screws, and some level adjustments.
Overall very happy with my new deck based on Tuff Blocks.

I first used Tuff Blocks using them to build a small (6' square) deck to serve as a step up to an entry door. I had concerns about frost heaving causing movement and distortion but after three New England winters have detected none. The time and labor savings over alternative footing methods was very welcome. Last year my Covid project was to enlarge our outdoor living space, covering an existing patio and raising it with a 10' x 12' deck to match the height of an existing porch. The structure would have been designed differently using traditional footings to minimize digging and leveling concrete piers. Using span tables and TuffBlock's own recommendations I used a pair of blocks to provide ground support to each joist supporting the rim by short cantilevers. Using this method each joist had to be leveled from the fixed height of the porch deck, which is where the built in flexibility of TuffBlock to accommodate a 4x4 post came into play. In retrospect the hardest part of this project was finding the PT lumber I needed. With TuffBlock the structure can be easily modified or even removed in the future without permanent footings to deal with. Large decks would require caution not to exceed TB's load limits, but with appropriate design they can be the solution for decks up to about 16 x 16 and be incorporated in the design of larger, more traditionally supported decks, for example for changing levels.

Easy to use, quick to install. Two DIYers built a 10 x 19 deck in less than 7 hours from scratch. Used 4 x 4's to support joists, because ground was not perfectly level. Only way I see you could use the 2 x 4 slots would be if you were installing on a concrete pad or something PERFECTLY level.

I used the BuildTuff supports under a small DIY shed over three years ago. They were much easier to use than sinking supports into cement. It took some work to get them seated firmly and level, but once we did, the rest of the construction went well. Most importantly, three years later, the shed hasn't budged an inch; it's still level and firmly supported. I'd certainly use these again.

Tuffblocks are awesome. I build about 15 decks a year , and these Tuffblocks make is so much easier than anthing I've used in the past.! Don't have to dig for 4x4 posts. Just level the ground and lay them down...super easy.

All construction starts with a good foundation, I was going to go with the concrete piers which are heavy and not always cut very well, when I found these Tuff Blocks from Lowe. Great product, used as footing for 4 x 4 posts, for a deck about 18" off the ground butting up to a concrete wall. It makes leveling the joists easy. But you can't put support posts right beside the wall because the bottom surface is so wide it pushes the posts several inches away from the wall. Also if you use these to support posts at or near the edges or corners of your deck you are going to see them sticking out several inches beyond the edges of your deck. So I only used them to support posts on the interior of the deck and nail my joists to the posts. For the edges of the deck I had to use other supports because I didn't want black plastic sticking out beneath the edges. There is already a photo on here that shows them sticking out so I won't add another.

These BuildTuff TuffBlocks make building a floating deck EASY! No digging required for your 4x4 posts. We built our deck on a slope and were able to cut our 4x4s to fit easily. Two of the joists along the back were right at ground level and we were able to use the TuffBlocks directly with them, too. Just had to level a small patch of ground for each of the blocks.

I am building a ground-level deck off the back of the house, but not quite ON the ground, and I have a pretty good pitch heading away from the house. I didn't want to hang a ledger board at all, let alone so low to the ground, and I didn't want to dig piers at any point. So I opted for a floating deck. I hated the concrete block idea, then I found these - Eureka!!!. I have them supporting the horizontal 2X6 joists next to the house where I was able to get them low enough to fit under the doorframe, and I used them with a vertical 4X4 at the opposite end at about 10-12" high. You could probably drive a car onto my frame with these! (I supported every other joist as seen in the photo, before filling in the rest of the joists).
